Free Racing Tips

Mention racing at Ascot or Windsor and you can usually conjure up an image of the style and class associated with the events held here. Ascot in particular has been one of the focal points of the racing calendar for many years. Situated in Ascot, Berkshire, Ascot Racecourse is one of the leading race courses in Britain, and of the thirty two annual group one meetings, nine of them are held at Ascot. The course has strong links with the Royal family. Founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, the course has enjoyed continued popularity as a racing course. During the course of the year, Ascot stages twenty five days of racing, sixteen of which are flat meetings, which are held in May and October. Among the many events are some races which are eternally popular, such as the Queen Anne Stakes, the Prince of Wales Stakes, the Coronation Stakes and the Golden Jubilee Stakes which are all Group One races. Famous National Hunt races are the Victor Chandler Chase and the Reynoldstown Novices` Chase.

One of the major meetings is Royal Ascot which has a long history and continues to be a major event in the British horse racing calendar. The highlight is the Ascot Gold Cup which is run over two and a half miles, and takes place in June. The race was first run in 1807, and is traditionally held on day three of the event, which is Ladies day, also a highlight of the social events calendar. Only two horse have won the Gold Cup three times, Sagaro and Yeats, although there have been several two time winners. The legendary jockey Lester Piggott won the race a total of eleven times, winning his first race in 1957 on Zarathustra. Other famous names to ride winners ain the Ascot Gold Cup include Gordon Richards, Greville Starkey, Pat Eddery, Steve Cauthen, Willie Carson and Frankie Detorri. Famous successful trainers include Henry Cecil, Lord Huntingdon and more recently, Aidan O`Brien.

Windsor racecourse is situated on the banks of the River Thames. It overlooks the River Thames and is situated in 165 acres of countryside. As it is only one of two figure of eight racecourses in Great Britain, the other being at Fontwell Park, it has a reputation for fast exciting races. The sharp bends ensure that the race is more based on speed rather than stamina. The area around Windsor has links with racing going back as far as the time of Henry the Eighth. The first officially organised meeting at Royal Windsor took place in 1866. There are now a total of twenty six races held throughout the course of the year, and these include a number of Monday evening events, which are held during the summer. Many of these are themed evenings, and are extremely popular. Windsor offers a blend of modern and traditional, and you can even arrive at the course in a boat from Windsor Promenade.

The appeal of Royal Windsor and Ascot is enduring and both course are likely to be part of the social calendar for many years to come. for more up to the minute horse racing information, go to horse racing betting tip.
