The Coldstream Guards arrive back into Windsor

As the Irish Guards leave Victoria Barracks the Coldstream Guards have arrived back into town for their 3 year stint working in the Castle as well as on operations which look likely to be mainly in Afghanistan.

It is easy to forget that Windsor is a garrison town with 2 regiments based here, the Blues and Royals and whoever is in the Victoria barracks. But we have a long close connection with the troops here and wish them all the best in the future.

Solar PV Power

I’ve been looking into this for a while now and am very close to sorting something out for the B&B and introducing some very useful solar energy into the building. We already have a solar water heating system that has been working on saving not only the environment but the bills as well for over a year now.
It would be great to see more use of the renewable energy that we have at our disposal.

Improved Wireless Broadband at Langton House

I recently spent some time and money getting the wireless broadband to a higher specification. Now all the rooms in the Bed and Breakfast get a good fast signal.

I know for sure a few of our regular guests will be very happy the next time they stay.

Japanese Nuclear workers

I am sure I am not alone in thinking the men who are working on the reactors in Fukushima nuclear plant are true hero’s. Let be honest, they must know the danger they are putting themselves in and yet to go in every day to continue their vital work is truly humbling. I hope the Government looks after them in their old age because they are bound to have some pretty nasty illness at some point in the future. Their country definitely should reward their sacrifices.

A wonderful Christmas

Well another year has slipped past in a flurry of activity! Before you know it we have past off into 2011 and are getting ready for another year….
We had a wonderful break for Christmas and got over the hangover from the New Year party and now it is back to business as usual!

Room 3 gets an Overhaul

We now have a slightly modern 4 poster pine bed and matching new furniture in the room. This along with the recently renovated bathroom with lovely powerful shower and marble décor adds to the overall luxury feel of the room. We personally love this room and we think you will too!

Windsor’s new Mayor

Since beating the Liberal Democrats into the Castle Without ward in May 2007, Catherine Bursnall has risen quickly risen up the ranks and is set to become the youngest ever Mayor when she replaces the current Mayor on May 25.

I have had the “pleasure” of seeing the current mayor, Jesse Grey, in early 2010 and I was rather under-whelmed by the experience! I am sure he is a very good person and doing a stand up job, but I did wonder how he got the job in the first place as his public speaking left rather allot to be desired.

We wish Catherine Bursnall, or Cat as she likes to be called, all the very best in her new role.

The quiet skys above Windsor

As we head into day 2 of the flight ban above the UK I’m starting to wonder if this will have an even bigger effect on even my business?

It all started as a bit of a laugh….Closing down the air space! No aircraft noise for an afternoon! Except now I’m not laughing.

If this does go on it has impacts that reach much further into the country and the economy. There are so many associated businesses around here that rely on the airport, from the thousands of airport workers to the travelling public.

This volcano could continue to erupt for weeks!

Weather Update

Now it may almost be the middle of April, but it’s getting cold AGAIN! I really can not believe it, it is due to go down to 3 C over night in a couple of nights time…

When will it ever be truly spring? We get a wonderful number of spring blue bells in the front garden, they have not even flowered yet this year…

Come on spring, where are you!

Recent work at Langton House

We have recently finished adding a new flat screen TV with built in digital Freeview and a DVD to Room 3 as well as having a major overhaul of the bathroom in that room. It now looks absolutely fantastic with a tiled floor and walls, great new shower and a new water saving toilet.
